Hassan Younes

Co – CEO & Founder - GRFN

 Hassan Younes is the Co - CEO & Founder of grfn, a multi-disciplinary consultancy  and has over 15 years of extensive experience in the fields of Energy Efficiency, Design, Sustainability, and Project Execution and Management. Hassan has been involved in many high-end projects in the MENA region encompassing MEP designs, energy efficiency, commissioning management , sustainability and measurement and verification for new and existing buildings in the MENA region. He also was involved in energy and sustainability policy studies for many governmental entities in the GCC.  
 
He is a trainer for the ASHRAE Global Training Centre.  He is a trainer for the Association of energy engineers’ Certified Energy Manager ( CEM) course,  Energy Valuation Organization’s Certified Measurement Verification Professional (CMVP) course and the facilitator for the Emirates Green Building Council Building Retrofit Program. He is an appointed Consultant for ASHRAE 62.1 Standard and is a member of the training committee for the CMVP course.
 
He is also the current ASHRAE Falcon Chapter president and on the technical committee and was the Vice Chair of CIBSE Regional Chapter. Hassan holds all the ASHRAE certifications.

Rachid Hamida

Member of the Board - Clean Energy Business Council (CEBC) MENA

Rachid joined Enova in 2017 to lead the Technology & Performance department, which gathers the Energy, Hubgrade, Renewable Energy, and Asset Management functions under one umbrella. As part of Enova’s overall growth strategy, this department drives the company’s technology vision through digital transformation and leadership. 
 
Rachid previously worked for Veolia’s Tools & Methods department in France. Over the past 20 years, his career has seen him lead several projects focused on aligning digital strategy with business and commercial goals in France, the UK, North America, Eastern Europe, and Africa.

Russ Jones

Visiting Scholar, Center for Energy Research, University of California at San Diego and - Senior Member, Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

Russ Jones is an experienced professional in renewable energy, technology management, and business development.  He currently serves as the director of business development for PD3 Technologies, a California company developing innovative products for home HVAC systems, and as a visiting scholar at the University of California at San Diego, researching long duration energy storage needs in the California electricity grid. Russ joined the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K∙A∙CARE) in November 2013, where he served until September 2020 as a Senior Advisor for Renewable Energy and the Program Development Manager for the Technology Localization & Commercialization Initiative. Prior to that, from 2008–2013 he served as the Director of Business Development for Concentrating Photovoltaics (CPV) at Spectrolab, a Boeing subsidiary in Sylmar, California. Prior to that he was the program manager for the Solar Energy Business Initiative at Boeing Phantom Works in Seal Beach, California, as well as the Principal Investigator for the Boeing Solar America Initiative Program and an Associate Technical Fellow of the Boeing Company.  Russ has over 33 years of professional experience at the Boeing Company and previously at Hughes Aircraft Company, with 22 years of program and project management of technology development and production development programs. His prior assignments have included development of hydrogen propulsion technology (hydrogen fuel cells, combustion engines, and cryogenic storage tanks), satellite-based mobile Internet systems, high speed digital packet switching, laser communications, and infrared sensors.

Russ has a strong background in electro-optical (EO) systems engineering, as a result of 16 years experience in the Hughes Electro-Optical Systems group (now Raytheon). He served as department manager for all electro-optical systems development from 1993–1996, and served as the technical director for development of the Thermal Weapon Sight infrared sensor for the US Army.

Russ has been interested in photovoltaic power throughout his career and conducted his graduate research on electrodeposited CdS/CdTe solar cells, characterizing defect states through stimulated photoemission.

 

Nathan Hones

Chief Operating Officer / Partner - Carter Associates

Nathan is a project manager, development director & Partner at Carter Associates, a project consultancy and project management firm in Dubai.  Carter Associates works with asset owners and operators to identify opportunities for increasing efficiencies and revenue and decreasing costs and then project manage the implementation of those agreed strategies.  They have a specific expertise in hotel refurbishments, feasibility studies and capital development plans and have introduced a number of ESCOs into their projects.

Wael Darkazanli

PMO Consultant - Parsons

Wael has 19+ year-experience in construction projects, where more than 12 years in Project Management and PMO services.

He has executed different types of PMO for public and governmental sectors, and he is currently working with Parsons for the Ministry of Municipality, Rural Affairs, and Housing MOMRAH - as a PMO Consultant.

His experience has covered different types of construction projects such as high-rise buildings, residential compounds, and educational buildings, where he has worked in different technical and managerial positions.

Prof. Muhammad Asif

Professor of Architectural Engineering - King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals

Dr Muhammad Asif is a Professor at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. His areas of research interests include renewable energy, energy conservation and management, energy policy, sustainable buildings and life cycle assessment. He is a Charted Engineer (UK), Certified Energy Manager (USA) and Member of the Energy Institute (UK). He is author of two books and over 100 research papers. He has provided research & advisory services to prominent public and private sector entities in Europe, Middle East and South Asia such as the European Commission, Fraunhofer Institute, Nor-Dan and Grameen Shakti. He has conducted teaching and training activities in several countries including Austria, Finland, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom, Oman, Pakistan and Turkey.
